Returning to Stillness: Devasom Khao Lak Debuts Sol Circle | The Week of Eastern Philosophy
KHAO LAK, PHANG NGA – Presence. Attention. Impermanence. Devasom Khao Lak Beach Resort & Villas has introduced Sol Circle, its new wellness retreat series, with the inaugural Week of Eastern Philosophy on the Andaman coast.
Chado: The Way of Tea
Devasom welcomed a Tea Master from Kyoto’s Urasenke school, with a Chashitsu — the traditional Japanese tea room — built on the Andaman coast for the occasion. Guests were welcomed to learn Chado: The Way of Tea and the philosophy at its heart: Ichigo Ichie.
This cup, this room, this company will not come again. The ceremony asks the practitioner to receive what is in front of them, knowing the moment, once passed, will not return in the same form.
Ikebana: Presence in Petals
The Japanese art of flower arrangement is less about the flowers and more about the space between them — a form of meditation through composition, learning to see what’s absent as clearly as what’s present. Wabi-sabi runs through both Chado and Ikebana: nothing polished to perfection, beauty found in imperfection and impermanence.

Other Paths to Stillness
Drawn from traditions across Asia, the other practices offered ways back to oneself — set within the landscape of forest and shore:
- Tai Chi by the Sea: Slow, flowing movements practised at the shore, the body moving to the breath of the sea.
- Mindfulness for Beginners: An introduction to Vipassana, focusing the mind on observing the breath and the body.
- Himalayan Sound Bath: Resonant tones from singing bowls at the lagoon, settling the body into deep rest.
- Kayak Adventure & Forest Bathing: Grounded in Shinrin-yoku — a paddle through the lagoon focused on sensory awareness, stillness, and the breath of nature.
True to the philosophy of impermanence, the next chapter of Sol Circle will return in a different form—as all things do. The Week of Wellfulness follows — yoga, breath, the art of beautiful repair, and Thai cuisine as medicine.
