Devasom Hotels in Khao Lak and Hua Hin are family owned and operated boutique hotels. From the initial planning of the hotels through to operation, integrating into the local community has been a priority for us. Part of integrating into the community is understanding, respecting and preserving local culture, heritage, traditions and nature. It was this respect for the past that inspired the design and architecture at Devasom Khao Lak and continues to inspire our sustainability efforts.
Sustainability in Khao Lak
Sustainability is central to our values for preservation. Maintaining the beauty of Khao Lak and preserving its nature is important to us as it is essential to the survival of our communities here. There is still a large agrarian community, subsisting partly on fishing and farming. Nature is also important for tourism. Travelers come from all over the world to swim in Khao Lak’s beaches, snorkel in the Andaman Sea and relax on the beach under the shade of trees.
Sourcing Food Locally
Our restaurants, Takola Thai Restaurant and Devasom Beach Grill and Bar, source as many ingredients as possible from the local community. Our seafood is fresh and comes from local fishermen. The produce we use is also sourced locally and many of the herbs and chilis come from our own organic garden. In this way we support the local economy as well as decrease our carbon footprint. Some of our ingredients may come from a bit further, such as the four varieties of rice we use, but we still source from within Thailand.
Nurturing People
The biggest impact we can make is with people themselves. For this reason we strive to hire locally and actively support the career development of our team members. During the Covid-19 pandemic we supported our team members and in many cases their families. We are proud to have kept our entire team and did not let go of a single team member. It is the people who make Devasom Khao Lak a special place for guests.
Annual Education Scholarship in Khao Lak
We recognize the importance of higher education. That’s why we established the Devasom Khao Lak Scholarship. Every year we give one student in Khao Lak a full tuition scholarship to complete a 4-year university degree in the field of their choice.
School Lunch Project in Khao Lak
Every academic year we contribute a school lunch fund to a local school to help ensure the students are receiving adequate nutrition. It is well documented that eating healthfully contributes to learning. We see the youth in the local schools as the future leaders in Khao Lak and Thailand.
